Joey Savatgy Retains Points Lead Going Into Break

ST. LOUIS (April 2, 2017) – Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy kept the Eastern Regional 250SX points lead heading into the short break after collecting his fourth-straight runner-up finish at The Dome at America’s Center. His teammate Adam Cianciarulo finished sixth and is 18 points back of his teammate in the standings.

Joey Savatgy
The day as a whole was really encouraging for Savatgy who came into the night event as the top qualifier. He captured another heat race win aboard his Kawasaki KX250F and put himself in good position for the main. During the crucial main event, Savatgy got a great start and charged into the lead not long after the start. He encountered some mistakes, but despite going off the track and getting hit by a lapper he managed to charge at the leader until the end, finishing just 0.6 seconds back of the winner.

“We are leaving here healthy and have the red plate so that is always good,” said Savatgy. “The little mistakes are frustrating but the speed is there. The starts have been there, which is encouraging, so we’ll see what we can do after the break.”

Adam Cianciarulo
Cianciarulo was proving his speed both during the day’s practice and the night show. After collecting third in his heat, he got a nice start in the main event to put him in the top-five. He battled and didn’t give up the entire 15 minutes plus one lap main event to finish sixth on the night.

“I had a pretty good crash in second practice and I feel like it hindered me when we went to the night show,” said Cianciarulo. “I couldn’t get in a grove and the track was challenging so it didn’t turn out how I wanted. We have some time off and we’ll regroup.”

The riders on the East Coast will get a short break before returning to action on April 29 for the penultimate round of the season. Justin Hill and Austin Forkner return to action next weekend in Seattle.
