Franke schenkt DIGA eerste GP reeks

De GP van Tjechie; meer bepaald Loket; zou het toneel worden voor de laatste ronde van het Wereldkampioenschap motocross voor dames. Een prachtige en legendarische omloop met een geweldige culturele geschiedenis.

Helaas zou deze GP ook legendarisch worden! De abnormale weersomstandigheden maakte van deze omloop een ongezien modderpoel. 3 dagen had het niets anders gedaan dan geregend en dit met de nodige stortbuien en het zou een zware opgave worden voor de dames.

Toch maakte DIGA een meer dan sterke indruk en dit met Maria Franke die het zilver mocht nemen na Liva Lancelot en voor Steffi Laier. Ons Morane wist de 21ste plaats te behalen met 3 punten op zak! Nikki Scott startte deze wedstrijd niet.

Marcel v. Drunen loopt verder uit in het ONK Supermoto

Marcel van Drunen uit het Yamaha MVD Goldspeed Team heeft zondag de zesde wedstrijd om het Open Nederlands Kampioenschap Supermoto in Holten gedomineerd. In zowel de eerste als de tweede manche kwam de rijder uit Eindhoven in de beginfase aan de leiding te rijden en controleerde vanaf dat moment beide manches. Voor van Drunen is dit zijn vijfde zege oprij en heeft in Holten zijn voorsprong in de tussenstand om het Open Nederlands Kampioenschap flink uit weten te bouwen.

Jordi van Doorn scoort goed in Overloon

Zaterdag 26 juni stond de StiMoNed-Amberu Racing Team rijder Jordi van Doorn aan de start bij de MON jeugdwedstrijd in Overloon. Het circuit in Overloon dat gelegen is in de bossen bestaat uit een zanderig ondergrond. Voor Jordi is dit de tweede wedstrijd van dit jaar in Overloon. De vorige wedstrijd werd door Jordi gewonnen bij de B-klasse. Gemotiveerd werd er afgereisd naar Overloon om deel te nemen bij de 85cc A-klasse.

In de training liet Jordi een goede indruk achter en ging zich voorbereiden voor zijn eerste manche.

Na het vallen van het starthek kwam de rijder uit Berlicum op een vijftiende plaats uit de eerste bocht. In de eerste drie ronden wist Jordi enkele plaatsen goed te maken en was naar een twaalfde plaats gestegen. Halverwege de wedstrijd werd Jordi nog een plaats teruggewezen naar de dertiende plaats om op deze plaats te worden afgevlagd.

Bij de start van de tweede manche zat Jordi er beter bij en kwam op een negende plaats uit de eerste bocht. In de tweede bocht ging het fout en Jordi beet in het zand en moest als een van de laatste aan de wedstrijd beginnen. In de derde ronde had Jordi zich inmiddels al opgewerkt tot een veertiende plaats. Opnieuw beet Jordi in het zand en kon moeilijk onder zijn motor vandaan komen en verloor hierdoor veel plaatsen. In de laatste ronde wist Jordi nog twee plaatsen goed te maken om op een zeventiende plaats te worden afgevlagd.

Met een dertiende en zeventiende plaats in de manches behaalde Jordi van Doorn een zestiende plaats in het dagklassement.

Eventful day for Nicholls with 11th overall in Latvia

The sandy soil of Kegums hosted the Grand Prix of Latvia and the second of three consecutive rounds in the FIM Motocross World Championship for the HM Plant Red Bull KTM UK team as Jake Nicholls negotiated two physical races in sunny and hot conditions to finish 11th overall.

The rapid bumps and ripples of the eastern European venue provided a testing surface and a different test compared to the hard-pack of Germany the previous week. Nicholls had made a good start and rode a consistent race on Saturday earning 8th place for the same choice of positions in the gate for Sunday.

Kegums was coated with even warmer temperatures and a fair crowd on race-day as a total of 17,000 (weekend figure) rolled into the circuit 70km south-east of Riga. Nicholls’ first moto began with a slip to the floor on the first corner and meant a trawl through the pack. The 20 year old was fighting with Matiss Karro for a creditable 13th – which he won – but not before the duo became involved with the race leaders pushing through on the last lap which led to some ill-judgement from Karro and frustration on Nicholls’ part.

The second moto saw a much better start and the HM Plant Red Bull KTM UK rider was running in fifth place through the opening exchanges. After finding his feet with a consistent speed Nicholls crossed the finish line in 10th. He holds 11th in the MX2 world championship standings and 5 points from the top ten.

Meanwhile back in Northern Ireland, Graeme Irwin made a return to competition following his shoulder operation at the prestigious John Donnelly Memorial Motocross at Downpatrick MX circuit in Co Down. After setting a timed practice lap 2.5secs faster than any of his rivals, he struggled out of the gate in each moto on his KTM 250SXF against the majority of his rivals on 450s. Moto 1 saw him progress to 2nd at the finish to local KTM rider Gary Gibson despite suffering arm-pump due to his lack of bike-time.

Moto 2 witnessed Irwin also finish in 2nd at the line but due to a red flag incident just before the finish he was demoted to 3rd as the result was eventually taken by positions at the end of the previous lap. Moto 3 saw Irwin take the lead on the first circulation only for the race to again be red flagged. After the restart, he resumed his position at the front of the pack which he held for the duration. He was pipped for the overall victory and the John Donnelly trophy by just 1 point by Gibson- arguably as a result of the occurrence in the second sprint.

At the same event, Irwin's team-mate Natalie Kane was presented with her 2009 FIM Bronze medal from the Women’s World Motocross Championship by the President of the Motorcycling Union of Ireland Trevor Callaghan. Natalie is still recovering from a broken bone in her right wrist. Her next outing is at round two of the British Ladies Motocross Championship in mid-July.

HM Plant Red Bull KTM UK will travel north this week to Uddevalla and the Grand Prix of Sweden for round ten of the series. A three week break will then precede the fifth round of the Maxxis British Championship at Foxhills on July 25th.

Josh Strang Maintains Points Lead at Snowshoe GNCC

Snowshoe, WV – June 29, 2010 – FMF Makita Suzuki's Josh Strang raced his way through the rough West Virginia terrain to a sixth-place finish at the famous Snowshoe GNCC on Sunday. Josh battled the track and the other riders as he worked his way around Snowshoe's extended track, which included some of the toughest obstacles all season. At the finish, the young Australian earned enough points to maintain his lead in the race for the championship, with 17 points now separating him from his closest competition. “It was a tough race for me,” said Strang. “My bike handled great, but I just wasn’t used to the heat and humidity.”

The track at Snowshoe is infamous for being one of the most challenging in the series, and it didn’t disappoint on Sunday. The 2010 Suzuki RM-Z450 was up to the task however, taking each of the course's varied obstacles in stride thanks to its sharp handling and the snappy throttle response of the fuel-injected engine. With such a wide variety of conditions, tracks like Snowshoe can wreak havoc on both rider and machine, but the RM-Z proved its mettle and carried Josh through to the finish.

The FMF Makita Suzuki team partnered with the RiderDown Foundation at the Snowshoe event to hold a special raffle after the race. Fans were given the opportunity to purchase tickets during the race for a chance at taking home Josh's 2010 RM-Z450. After Josh crossed the finish line, the bike was cleaned up and handed off to a lucky winner. “It was a cool deal,” said Strang. “My bike went to a great fan, and it was all for a good cause.” The proceeds from the raffle will be used to help fallen riders and their families with medical bills and other costs that can accrue when a rider is injured.

The Snowshoe GNCC was the final race before the series takes a summer break. The tour will resume on September 12th with the race at Unadilla in New Berlin, New York.
