Corona, Calif. (August 15, 2016) – Unadilla welcomed the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Team with hot and humid weather. During the morning qualifying, the team showed great strength and Arnaud Tonus set the second fastest lap time. Throughout the day, Austin Forkner demonstrated excellent speed and skill. At the end of Round 10, Austin rode his KX250F straight to Unadilla’s podium!
Solid Day for Forkner
In the first moto, Austin Forkner blew past the competition and grabbed the holeshot. He led the pack until a red flag was dropped. After the second gate drop, he was in 10th and was determined to make his way back to the front of the pack. In the final two laps, he made great passes and crossed the checkers in 7th. In Moto 2, he grabbed his second holeshot of the day. Throughout the final race, he led the pack across the difficult track. Crossing the checkers in 2nd, he finished the day in 3rd overall and once again found himself on the podium this season.
“On the first start I earned the holeshot and held the lead until the red flag. On the restart I was in a rut behind another rider that went down and was held up pretty bad. I pushed all the way to the end, passed a couple guys on the final lap and finished seventh. In the second moto I had an amazing start and lead the race for almost the whole moto. I was passed towards the end of the moto and immediately afterwards they red flagged the race. Had I known that was going to happen I would have sent it to keep first, but you live and learn. The track was really tough today and the conditions were even worse, but I managed to have solid results and I’m looking forward to the next one.”
Savatgy Moves Up
Joey Savatgy entered Moto 1 ready to put on a show for the New Berlin crowd. As the gates dropped, he began his assault towards the leaders. With great determination he entered the fight for the leading posisition. In the final laps he was able to take the number two spot and return the podium. Unfortunately, Joey had to exit the second moto. Despite the day’s challenges, he was still able to rise to 2nd in the point standings.
AC Bursts Out of the Gate
Adam Cianciarulo took full advantage of the red flag during the first moto. When the gate dropped he broke away from the pack and became the leader. He would go against his fellow teammate Joey throughout the last few laps and crossed the checkers in 4th. In the second moto, AC had to pull the No. 44 out of the competition and had to settle for an overall 11th.
Tonus Steps It Up
Fueled by great time during the morning qualifying, Arnaud Tonus was more than ready for the day’s motos. Alongside his teammates Adam and Joey, he rode among the leaders throughout most of the first moto. Due to an issue in the final lap, he was pushed back to 16th and did not compete in the second moto. Arnaud left New York in 20th overall.
